Four months have passed from the first day of Brainwaves. During these months a lot of things have taken place: kayak lessons for intermediate paddlers at Evinos river, descents at Lousios and Alfeios rivers, escimo roll lessons in the sea and Evinos, steep creeking descents for advanced paddlers at upper Lousios, expedition trips at Krikelopotamos and Aoos, touring descents at Voidomatis and Ladonas.
Brainwaves hasn’t rely only to lessons. We have tried to promote kayaking in many ways. We try to be in the water as much as possible to design new programs, new trips and, in a way, to tell people that almost everything is possible, if you try hard.
But, from my point of view, the most important is to have NEWCOMERS to PADDLESPORT. And in Greece, slowly slowly, we have some newcomers to kayaking. Learning kayaking looks very difficult but isn’t as difficult as it seems. Give a try and you will realise that kayaking is a fair sport, as much as you spend time kayaking as easier you’ become a paddler, in some months. It’s so simple.
The past weekend a surprise found me! I was having a beginners course in Evinos and I realised that Yannis, the newcomer, was a kayaker from this first day. After three hours in calm water, he was ready to go to the slalom course. The slalom course, for Yannis, was a great spot for learning and having fun. Great job Yannis!!!
Every kayaker in the world encourage others to join kayaking. Are we doing the same in Greece??
